This orc character was done as a test to see how well the modeling process goes on an iPad. Everything done for this character was done exclusively on the iPad.
I first sculpted the bust of the character inside Forger for iOS. Using some reference but mostly imagination, I wanted to go for a look of an orc from Skyrim. Once finished sculpting, I then did the turn around images and also rendered out a 2K image from Forger. I then took that render and brought it into Procreate.
In procreate, I started by adding a nice green fill to adjust the grey mat cap to green. This could’ve been done in Forger, but I wanted to get right into Procreate. Using various layering methods, I worked in the color variation for the skin and flesh tones. I did a super rough facial flesh tone paint over and then reduced the opacity and set it to a blend mode in order to get hot eh proper color variations. The eyes at first I took images from the internet, but threw them out and hand painted them in instead using the images I found as a reference. The hair was the most interesting part. Starting with a solid block of brown, I added depth using darker values and then brushed in individual hairs and flyaways.
Overall I am extremely happy with the outcome of this piece. If anyone wants more breakdown of the layers inside Procreate, feel free to leave a comment. This goes to show, you can make awesome characters using strictly an iPad. Albeit the modeling won’t be as high detail due to lack of processing power, but the painting can make up for that by adding the micro details.
